Is it a bad idea to talk about politics and religion on the first date? How do you handle your disagreements over these and other global issues?

  • Some people here take this advice a little too seriously, sure you can talk about politics and religion but don't make it a full on debate! The reason people avoid these topics is because a (first) date is supposed to be FUN, not some kind of job interview.

  • I saw the movie he recommended, Phoenix and Griffin (2006), I enjoy it, and I recommend it. While many of the methods the man used to attract the woman were exagerrated and over the top, to make for good filming, they should not be imitated to every detail. But the temperament, demeanor, voice, posture, humor, and wit about the man serves as great inspiration on how to be interesting and attractive.

  • I have learned not to discuss Atheism, wanting to destroy religion, philosophy, socialism, computers, piles of profanity, etc etc. I have not had a girlfriend in 3 years and I am above average in looks. Time for me to make a change.

  • @arkady39

Good way to handle a political conservation:

"That's really interesting, I never thought of it that way... Tell me more"

Bad way to handle a political conservation:

"I voted for Bush TWICE, because I love my country!!. You don't support the troops, you want them to die? Your unpatriotic!! You support the Taliban, you socialist scum"

  • Hmm...I used to think most dating advices on the internet are useless, but your tips are actually really good. Thanks for making all these great videos!

  • @NikkiSerB yea lol like you fundalmentalist evangelicals don't either. and both of you guys are wacko.

  • Right on! That no politics and religion rule always bugged me. With people you hit it off with, those topics always come up. I always think, "Do you want to wait and find out where your partner stands before or after you're married to them." I just went on a date this weekend and we got into politics right away and the date went really well. I totally agree with you. Avoiding controversial topics is for the weak.

  • @flinzo In my humble opinion, if you decide to dismiss the topic of religion, then you might perhaps miss some interesting discoveries, especially when it is a subject of much debate due to so many different denominations. Only those who are tolerant of religion would know how to handle such a sensitive topic. And I think arkady totally makes sense when he says that no topic is off limits unless you know how to handle it in a mature manner.

  • @NikkiSerB well, I suppose that topic will be definitely off limits for you. I think a topic on religion would definitely open doors for an open-minded person as opposed to one who is not. Those who are willing to talk about it, have a lot more to offer and gain insight from. It is also a very interesting opportunity to share ideas WITHOUT resorting to a heated argument.
