You know, this whole event is tongue-in-cheek. Those people love their "ugly" dogs and aren't literally insulting or jeering at them. Finding the least aesthetically pleasing ones is just a fun little joke...the dogs relish all the attention and love, and everybody knows that they're really all beautiful.
