Malalai Joya: Obama Must End US Occupation of Afghanistan

"...The US & its allies invaded my country under the banner of 'women's rights', 'human rights', and 'democracy'. But unfortunately they pushed us from the frying pan into the fire because they replaced the Taliban with the Northern Alliance fundamentalists...& similar to the Taliban they did many crimes against women's rights, human rights... That's why today Afghanistan is a safe haven for terrorism... Right now, my people are squashed between 2 powerful enemies: from the sky, Occupation Forces bombing & killing civilans under the name of 'Taliban'; on the ground, Taliban & warlords continue their fascism. But unfortunately when Mr Obama took office, his first news for my people was more conflict & war because his foreign policy regarding my country is quite similar to the foreign policy of criminal Bush... If really Mr Obama is honest for Afghan people, first of all he must end this tragic drama of so-called 'war on terror'; that means he must end this occupation. Second, he must stop arming these warlords & not negotiate with the Taliban. ...Third...he must support democratic-minded people of my country...And 4th...he must together with the UN put pressure on neighboring countries..who support the Taliban & also the warlords. But unfortunately right now Mr Obama [is supporting] war in Afghanistan, in Iraq, & also supporting the criminal regime of Israel; and now war has been started in Pakistan as well. Democracy never comes by war."

The comment overlooks Joya's point that the US should "support democratic-minded people of my country". The ooccupation, as it is, involves killing & terrorizing civilians. And as she points out, it involves the arming & supporting of warlords who fuel the civil unrest. If the US would stop doing THOSE THINGS & start supporting the peace movement in the country, things wouldn't be perfect; but they'd be better than now. End military aggression. Doesn't mean don't help at all. Also help if ASKED.

Exactly, "liberating" the women of Afghanistan was one of the major secondary reasons for the invasion, but since then women's rights have been thrown under the bus in order to secure the support of the narco traffickers who rule the country.
