An example of the power and vast customization ability of Ubuntu (10.04).
Programs Used:
-Banshee Media Player (1.7.4)
-Covergloobus (cover art widget) using a custom script to launch and close both banshee and covergloobus simultaneously
-GnoMenu w/ Simple-Solid Theme (gnome-look.org)
-CCSM w/ Expo running and edge bindings set to all 4 corners of desktop
-Chromium w/ Dust Theme using system titles and borders
-Theme: Darklook controls w/ Dust Burnt windows
-Cairo Dock using one of the default themes
-Gnome-Do
-Recording with bleeding edge of ffmpeg from the cli (why terminal is open)

Running on my Sony Vaio laptop
-Core 2 duo
-Intel 4500MHD
-4GB RAM
-1366x768 screen resolution

I'm aware there is no sound, sorry about that. Couldn't figure out how to get ffmpeg to do it (actually just to lazy to look it up :)

  • Sorry to bug you, but I was wondering how you got the top of the windows to be transparent the way they are. I checked to see if it was in the Darklook theme but it didn't seem to be part of that. ( unless I overlooked it.) I like my theme the way it is, just want the transparent windows. :)

  • @11matt555

I handle window decoration transparency through Ubuntu Tweak.

To install Ubuntu Tweak open up terminal and:

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa

    sudo apt-get update

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu tweak

Once installed, the settings are under "Window Manger Settings"

  • @hummer0328

guess I can't type today, cause I forgot to hyphenate "ubuntu tweak" in the last command as it should be:

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

  • @hummer0328 I ran those commands but I got some errors. I took a screenshot and put it here. farm5.static.flickr.com/4125/5110939507_99cafb7460_b.jpg just zoom in with ctrl + and you should be able to read it. Im on Ubuntu 10.10 32 bit btw.

  • @11matt555

    sorry, my fault

    try this:

    sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

i forgot a simple hyphen between ubuntu and tweak

see all

  • do all windows games run on ubuntu??

  • Also wondering where I can snag that wallpaper, awesome setup man!

  • How did you do that I'm new to Ubuntu

  • This is sick! How did you get your Gnome menu like it is? Is it purely GnoMenu, or were there other customizations made?

  • Major SPOILER of Weeds!! LOL. What a great show.

  • Hi,

I was wondering if you know where you get that wallpaper? It's awesome!

  • Amazing, thanks for sharing!

  • @11matt555 Is it the Simple Solid or the Darklook/Dust Burnt that does it how I want?

  • @hummer0328 ok. I got the transparancy now, but apparantly im still missing something. The windows dont look exactly the same as yours. It looks a little like Vista without the Aero on.
