At MIDEM 2009's Publisher Summit, these two successful independent publishers a long term leader and a fast growing force in the market shared their views on how publishers can best succeed in todays fast evolving music environment and what is the right music publishing model moving forward to best serve the needs of copyright holders.
The characterization of Ralph Peer and the way he handled copyrights by "nonproducer" is historically inaccurate in every single particular. If anything, he BEGAN the practice of seeing that performers and songwriters actually got paid. The Carter Family continued to receive royalties for years and years after...Nice hotheaded bit of uninformed slander though.

Ralph Peer II, "successful independent music publisher". Son of the cruelest bastard in musical history, Ralph Peer, founder of Peer International and robber-barron son of a bitch. Peer made his multiple millions by starting the trend of keeping artists on pathetic remuneration - reminding them they'd be 'nowhere without him'. The copyrights he obtained from A.P. Carter for a handful of dollars are some of the most valuable musical properties in existence.
What a bloodsucking asshole.
