terra incognita (Unknown land), video installation by tsBeall

The video installation terra incognita (Unknown Land) was installed in the former Scottish Land Registry offices in August 2008, as part of The Edinburgh Art Festival/Fringe Festival.

The work uses found surveillance footage, focusing on desolate borders and boundaries where surveillance or webcamera technology have become our main source of imagery of the landscape. Footage is from scientific expeditions in Antarctica, military reconnaissance planes in Iraq and Afghanistan, and surveillance cameras in the desert along the U.S.-Mexico border.
