Pope Benedict XVI received the new Ambassador to the Holy See from Bulgaria, Nikola Kadulov Ivanov, who presented his Letters of Credence on Saturday at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.

In remarks to the Ambassador, Pope Benedict said development must not take into account economic parameters only; real development, he said, must concern itself with ensuring peoples human and social development.

Authentic development of man and society must include a spiritual dimension; political leaders must supply a moral vision in order that they might be able to exercise authority effectively disinterestedly, with a view to the common good.
