Goes to show that the German environment of Gelnhausen and the German media / record labels / booking agents were very open to experimental sounds and embraced the Monks' music.
It took 35 years for the rest of the world and especially their homecountry to catch up.

See, I think the Monks weren't pre-punk so much as they were pre-psychedelic. These people talk about the pounding, repetitious beat and crazy lyrics; that's more likeable when you're on drugs. They just should've showed up in San Francisco in 1967 and that's where they would've found an American audience who would've appreciated 'em.
