As a tribute to the late Robert Goulet (Nov. 26, 1933-Nov. 1, 2007) this video is one that probably hasn't been seen by too many Goulet fans. During the 1970's Oral Roberts had a series of primetime TV variety specials to promote his University in Tulsa Oklahoma and to raise funds. Roberts managed to attract some key performers like Johnny Cash, The Lennon Sisters, and many others to perform on the shows. From the Roberts Easter special, here is Canadian born Robert Goulet joining Oral's son, Richard, who, along with his second wife, has recently been charged with some scandelous actions by University staff members, Richard's ex-wife, Patti Roberts, The World Action Singers, a quartet called Reflection and The Ralph Carmichael Orchestra for Christ the Lord Has Risen Today and The Easter Song. If you look closely you can see Oral Roberts and his wife Evelyn join the group at the end of the song.

  • Hey, I'm actually in this video! The White guy with big hair...as I recall, Goulet came to this video shoot rather drunk! It was pretty funny to hear some of his comments. And yes, Carlton Pearson sang with the World Action Singers. There are many more great videos like this out there somewhere!

  • Nice to know who you are in this group. I have more of these specials. They really were nicely produced and executed! I enjoy the one from Alaska a lot! I'll try to get more posted from time to time. I've heard that Goulet was pretty much going the heavy booze route, while proclaiming his great religious convictions. I wonder if that's why he blew some of the lyrics in the songs.

  • Anyone notice Carlton Pearson singing in the background lol

  • Who is Carlton Pearson? Should I have heard of him?

  • He was a prominent person in ORU history. Often referred to as "my black son" by oral roberts. Founder of Higher Dimensions church in Oklahoma, most recently labeled a heteric by everyone because he changed his views. google him lol.

  • Thanks for the info. I DO know who he is and have seen him on several news shows recently...he sounds like an interesting person.

  • Oh man, that Patti Roberts is gorgeous. I used to watch this show in the 70's. Later I read Patti's book about the breakup of her marriage and the recent financial scandals at ORU. Also Robert Goulet's untimely passing and his ill-fated last Las Vegas show at the Venetian casino. (He had to close the show because of "four-walling"--which means the singer has to pay rent to use the hall and apparently Goulet couldn't sell enough tickets to keep his show going.)

  • I watched, as a much younger person :) every week - just to hear Patti & Richard's duets. They sand so well together.

  • Robert Goulet was an American born in Mass. to French Canadian parents and he went back to Alberta (wherever that is) as a kid.

His relatives made him wear blackface & do Al Jolson impersonations and he was so embarassed by this, that throughout his life he always had to battle really terrible 'stage-fright'.

However, he was such a big hit in Camelot that he wowed everybody.

  • Wow! I had no idea this existed! I was in the studio audience during this taping-- January 23, 1976. (I still have the flyer, signed on the back "God love you, Bob Goulet.")

  • He was actually dressed fairly conservatively for that era, believe it or not. The '70s weren't for the faint of heart. :-)

  • wow say what you want to say..patti could sing!!!....televangelists really make me sad...it seems so full of hypocrisey....but hey I guess life is full of hypocrissey..

  • I must be the only person to find this Robert Goulet "moment" incredibly funny. Where does one start?? The boiled-egg size pinkie ring he sports? Did he not get the Easter dress code memo? I think he borrowed the shirt from the Flying Nun. And how about that out of tune, gravelly first entrance he sings to the teleprompter? Too bad he didn't attend rehearsals to see how long to hold that final note...WHOOPS. Guess he had a gig on Holy Saturday.....

  • Richard reminds me of Bob McGrath--his looks I mean.
