@cryingmolly But I do agree, people can go overboard on a less expensive guitar. They re-hydrate pretty well, but too much is worse. If I lived in a very dry or wet climate, I would probably just put a humidifier in a room just for all the guitars. Then I could leave them out year round, and it would probably be cheaper too!!!
@cryingmolly Hi, I don't think the replacements are that high and it depends where you live. Where I am in NJ, I go through 2 a year, both in the winter when the furnace is running. Good Tight case is important. When I buy used guitars, I use a dampit and a sponge in a deeper dish with plastic over the top and holes punched at the headstock. There are cheaper ways, and you just have to keep your eyes on it, because I think over humidifying is just as bad or worse.
I just ordered a $1000 breedlove. I have a $500 takamine that I have had for 12 years and just needed a brace. But that is 12 years of no humidifier. Say you go through 5 of these packs a year that is $100 x12yrs=$1200 to maintain a $500 guitar. My new guitar will still have fret wire and fret wood wear, sound hole wear and god knows how many nicks and bumps in 10 years using this product I'll have paid for the guitar twice by the time I am ready to replace it due to normal wear and tear.
@xDet3rmin4tionx The best way to store your guitar when not in use, is always keep it in the case with this system in the guitar and in the case. I have one of theses and it works very well. If you keep your guitar in the case when not in use, it will greatly increase the life of the guitar.
@xDet3rmin4tionx it depends on the climate of your room, but i would definitely put your guitar in it's case and humidify it at night because if you put it in your guitar while its on the stand, the humidipak will try to humidify your whole room as opposed to the inside of your case
Ok, I'm unsure if I'm being ridiculous as I know nothing about this kind of thing, should I be getting one of those to go on my guitar when I'm not playing it if it's just out on a stand in my room? Or is that just being ridiculous? So what I'm asking is, if I never put it away in a case, should I still get one to go on the guitar while I'm not playing it when it's on the stand?
When there's a product that doesn't get spent in just a couple months, I'll buy. Does D'Addario try to develop such a system, or is that like asking if pharmaceutical companies research cures for diseases?
