The traditional "La Bella Filipina" Habanera Kundiman with its original Spanish lyrics sung by Guillermo Gomez-Rivera and accompanied by Roberto Buena.

Spanish Lyrics and English translation provided for this video by Alfonso 'Fonsucu' Velázquez and Luz 'ContessaDeAvila'. Permission to publish the music recording at Youtube was granted to 'Philclassic' by Guillermo Gomez Rivera thru Luz "ContessaDeAvila". Vintage photographs of Manila Carnival Queens of the 1900's are presented in this video.

NOTE: There was a typo.. at 1:27, the correct Spanish word is "AMA" but I wrote "ALMA" instead. The Spanish phrase should read: "Las AMA el que las ve".

  • A nonsense? More than one million Filipinos killed by the Yankees in a few years? The Old City of Manila and its monuments destroyed by American bombing during the Second World War? That was much worse than 300 years of Spanish colonization.

  • @godam999: My own home town and city of Caloocan was a victim of the 'Yankees' reign of terror in 1899 when almost all the inhabitants of this city was massacred without mercy by them. They also destroyed much of what was Caloocan City then leaving only the centuries old church which still stands even today (now the San Roque Cathedral of the Diocese of Caloocan).

  • Please do not post RACIST remarks. I shall block anyone who will do so. Salamat po!

  • Filipinos, you are more Hispanics than you can ever Hispanic suspect. Infortunatelly, the history and The United States have separated the common core to which you belong.

    Very beautiful song.

Vosotros filipinos sois más hispánicos de lo que podéis sospechar. Lástima que la historia y los Estados Unidos os hayan separado del tronco común al que pertenecéis.

    Muy bella canción.

  • @godam999 :Yes, after 300 years under Spain thru Mexico. But Filipinos nowadays prefers to be "American" than "Hispanic".

  • All racist replies written in Spanish will not be entertained...sorry

  • I wish I were God so I can rewind and correct the wrongs that we did as a country.

  • Photographers of yesteryears, before the digicam, have a way of making still picture alive even if it is in sepia color and the absence of digital special effects of today. I'm amazed you have this picture collections, moreso the music.

  • Was being part of the Spanish empire really beneficial to the people of the Philippines? Being part of someone elses empire isn't always a good thing, but from what I see Filipinos would have been better off under British rule. They wouldn't have forced you to change your religion or customs and would have allowed the natives some autonomy, and protection under British style rule of law. Although not a British colony, but a protectorate, Hawaii is still happy with it's British associations.

  • @godam999 But we are still Asians. Asians with a westernized culture.

  • @philclassic

Filipinos were betrayed by Yankees. Spain could not much longer maintain the colonies and would have had to leave Philippines anyway. The intervention of the United States was a bloodbath, delayed several decades the independence of your country and created puppet governments.
