Sitting at the back inside one of Essen's dual mode duobuses on route 145 on a mixed mode journey involving both diesel and electric traction.

Note how although when in electric trolleybus mode it is far from silent the motor and transmission noises are considerably more agreeable than the deafening roar of the diesel engine.

Also note how when not moving in electric mode there is virtually no noise - unlike when stationary in diesel mode when it is still consuming fuel and polluting both our ears and the air that we breathe.

Also heard are the wheels on the loosely laid wooden surface as used where kerb guided buses share trackage with trams / streetcars & the parking of the trolleypoles when the bus switches to diesel mode.

btw, the bus stops in the tunnel because it has a red signal - whilst underground the buses interacted with the signalling system, just like steel wheel trains, trams and streetcars.

  • Зачем так тупо долго снимать один салон?

  • @yurrri1978 listen to the video - its diesel, then elecric, then diesel again.

Its in 'real time', not edited.

    -----------------------------------------

Google translated the question as "Why so stupidly long time to shoot a salon?"

  • this shows that if Essen had carried on with the duo bus experiment they would today have a quiet and fast urban transport as an alternative to the trams ... instead of the noisy polluting diesels they are saddled with.

  • Thanks! But alas like most cities which use trams they are guilty of double-standards whereby the trams are electric and do not pollute their local environments, whilst the buses are diesel, and spew out noxious fumes which harm people's health.

  • I have a self-made image of this bus made in 1995. This was the last time when i saw this Dual-Mode-Bus

  • beautiful sound the bus is trolly buses

  • I Love The O 405 GTD´s

I live in Denkendorf Near Esslingen and This busses drive from 1988-2008 in Esslingen and on the Route 119 (Esslingen -Denkendorf) As I knew that the 2 last Busses here (327&328 Build 1994) were replaced by diesel busses (2 MAN Lions City ) I went to the "Betriebshof" to take some Fotos... but i was 2 weeks too late =( Both had left Esslingen.

The 327 in the Museum at Stuttgart he is Still able to drive in both Modes and he will return for some special drives

  • traveling with electrical empowered buses is much more comfortable than traveling with diesel empowered buses...

the acceleration is straighter and the deceleration as well. in addition the carcinogen smokes are missing.

  • buney boyle a.q enbı leri

  • much better ways to power transport in the busy city streets!

(better for human health - as diesel buses can never be truly clean, and their exhuast fumes make people ill)
