If you're an MMA fighter, then Injury prevention exercises for the shoulder must be performed because your shoulders are the easiest to injure due to poor posture, overuse, and getting caught in nasty submissions like Kimuras and Omoplatas.

Training the external rotator muscles of the shoulder is an essential part of your injury prevention program.

But you need to do more than just Side-lying external rotations and Face pulls, you need to train the muscles eccentrically.

This is because they play a big role in slowing a punch down and bringing it back, so you don't throw your shoulder out.

(Watch the Steve Lopez vs. Jim Miller fight from UFC 103 to see a shoulder dislocation in action)

So the External rotation catch and throw exercise does just this, which will help to keep your shoulders healthy and it'll also help you throw faster punches, since you'll be able to snap your arms back quicker than before.
