Bruce Springsteen - Wings for Wheels - Widener Feb 1975

The ultimate rarity. This is a complete performance of the early version of "Thunder Road" called "Wings for Wheels" and the only known video of its performance. It has different lyrics (Angelina instead of Mary) and a different chorus from the final recorded version of Thunder Road, and nowhere in the song do the words "Thunder Road" appear. Bruce at his best. Featuring Suki Lahav on violin.

As much as I like the recorded version of Thunder Road, there were some fantastic ideas in Wings For Wheels that I wish could have made it into the final take. The line about the "dirty wings those highway angels wear" is pure gold. Thanks for this video :D

wow...fantastic. thank you so much for the footage. this part in bruce's career connects with me so much. he's in the middle of recording btr, and you can just hear desperation in every word of this song. i would love to have the notebook he wrote the album in and see all the other thoughts he put down before it was finished.
