The Art Of Noise was an avant-garde synthpop group formed in 1983 by producer Trevor Horn, music journalist Paul Morley, and session musicians/studio hands Anne Dudley, J.J. Jeczalik, and Gary Langan. The group's mostly instrumental compositions were novel melodic sound collages based on digital sampler technology, which was new at the time. Inspired by turn-of-the-century revolutions in music, The Art Of Noise were initially packaged as a faceless anti- or non-group, blurring the distinction between the art and its creators. The band is noted for their innovative use of electronics and computers in pop music and particularly for their innovative use of sampling, a trend whch later became heavily used in hip-hop music. The name of the group alludes to the essay "The Art Of Noises" by noted futurist Luigi Russolo. "Beat Box" was the debut single released by the British group in 1983. The track originally appeared on the 12" EP "Into Battle With The Art Of Noise" but for the single release was heavily remixed in two versions, referred to as "Diversion One" and "Diversion Two". The song reached the lower regions of the U.S. singles chart, where it peaked at #92, and was also a moderate hit on the American R&B chart. It was much more popular with dance music audiences though, and in February of 1984 the song reached #1 on the American dance chart, where it remained for two weeks. This channel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Funk, soul, disco, R&B, dance, hip-hop, pop . . . 60s, 70s, 80s . . . whatever you call it, it's all 'Old School' and it's all here!
