Coldplay's new song Viva la Vida. The album release date for Viva la Vida is June 17, 2008. Here's the Lyrics

I used to rule the world
Seas would rise when I gave the word
Now in the morning I sweep alone
Sweep the streets I used to own

I used to roll the dice
Feel the fear in my enemy's eyes
Listen as the crowd would sing:
"Now the old king is dead! Long live the king!"

One minute I held the key
Next the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
Once you go there was never, never an honest word
That was when I ruled the world

It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in.
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become

Revolutionaries wait
For my head on a silver plate
Just a puppet on a lonely string
Oh who would ever want to be king?

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world

ooooo ooooo ooooo oooooo ooooo
(repeat with chorus)

I hear Jerusalem bells a ringing
Roman Cavalry choirs are singing
Be my mirror my sword and shield
My missionaries in a foreign field
For some reason I can't explain
I know Saint Peter won't call my name
Never an honest word
But that was when I ruled the world
Oooooh Oooooh Oooooh

  • I reckon this is one of the greatest song of all time...? :)

  • Great song! I am wondering though what are the lyrics based on? Is it based on the time period of the French Revolution or is it refering to the era of Nepolian? The banner that is shown comes from France.

  • That picture of there album is from the Paris Uprising of 1832. I'm doing my civics project on it :) SWEET! mom lets me listen to music while doing homework now! THANK U COLDPLAY! lol

  • @AntMcL1 it TOTALLY makes fun of the catholic church!

  • @kermitefrog64 the whole album is actually based on the period of the French Revolution and the lyrics of this song are kind of from the perspective of Louis XVI + the picture isn't random as someone in the comments below said, it's on the cover of the album and represents Liberty (the woman holding the french flag) which was basically the whole point of the revolutionary fuss :D

  • @kermitefrog64 Neither,picture is just random
