http://www.MasterNewMedia.org This is short (7 mins), pared down version of the excellent Beyond Broadcast documentary produced by Martin Lucas about the Beyond Broadcasting: Reinventing Public Media in a Participatory Culture conference that was held at the Berkman Center this past spring.

The organizers of the event were the Berkman Center for Internet & Society, Center for Social Media, Center for Citizen Media, Public Radio Exchange, The Project for Open Source Media, and New York University.

The original 13-minute video features interviews with several conference speakers including yours truly (Jake Shapiro, PRX), Chris Lydon of Open Source, David Liroff from WGBH, Peter Armstrong of Oneworld.net, videoblogger Jay Dedman and others.

See the Beyond Broadcast site and blog for more detailed information on this event.

  • excellent!

  • Check out Beyond Broadcast 2007

  • A nice video. :-)

"Social media" are an important part of the future, that's obvious. The question is how much will the open information community be prepared when the "inflection point" occurs, i.e. when for-profit organizations enter the area of social media.

  • Agreed. The biggest challenge they didn't mention in the video, though, is: how do we provide access to this burgeoning media/community to those millions in the world without the financial and technological means? I hope that internet access does not become the line at which future class distinctions are drawn.

  • Fascinating and inspiring. "Social media with a social message" gives me hope for the future. This clip should be featured!
