@bethanyannjay - the soft palate is the very back of the roof of your mouth. Open your mouth while looking in a mirror. You'll see a little "punching bag" hanging in the back - that is attached to your soft palate. It is a soft tissue area that you can move up and down. The "hard palate" is the front of the roof of your mouth right behind your top teeth.
When you see a doctor and he tells you to say "ahhh" he is getting you to raise the soft palate so he can see farther into your throat.

Oh my gosh! Thankyou so much! my voice teacher keeps telling me Im not lifting my soft palate but she never tells me what my soft palate is ha...yay now I know what she is talking about
