In war the only mission is victory. This is why America fire bombed the Japanesse civilians houses and bombed their country twice. War is not supposed to be fair it is supposed to be won.

Machiavelli simple laid out the two paths one may choose. He didn't influence those choices that princes made before him..they did. He is simply looking at history and saying that those who have card little for religion, faith, keeping his word etc. seems to advance while he who holds to these always come to ruin. My teacher tried to tell us he was a evil man . HOW? he was just showing us a side by side comparison of two paths one led to victory the other to defeat.
