Imagining these fantasies where everything is better, and then being brought back to harsh reality... Seeing that the world continues on, bright and whimsical, even after such a tragedy... Buffy denying that her mother is just a body, then realizing later that she called her mother a body as well...Feeling isolated and confused, but eventually realizing that what's before you is no longer your loved one, but just the body.
This whole show touches every level. We've all felt what this is like.

It's the most brutally honest representation of death in any TV show. This is how death happens, people! The world doesn't stop nor care for it. There's no sad background music, no heavenly light, no angel saving. It happens and you can only try to move on.

God that is boring

This is more real than a lot of people realize. I lost a loved one to a brain aneurism when I was in high school and it's true that you go through a period of shock before it actually hits you...Joss was brilliant for not adding music and keeping us trapped in the moment with Buffy.

Joss Whedon is probably one of the most gifted TV writer & director around. Buffy was funny and campy and the acting was at times over the top, but this famous scene was anything but. As great as Sara was in this (and Kristine Sutherland who played her mother), this scene was an unforgettable directorial tour du force for Whedon, and for Buffy fans who were, w/out question, stunned into absolute silence through this entire sequence.

i choke up everytime i see this scene i try not to cry but sometimes i do !!!
This is a masterpiece of acting by Sarah Michelle Gellar and a masterpiece of directing by Joss Whedon. The best scene of a tv show i have seen in my entire life, and i saw a lot of tv shows.
