  • Dewaltcarp: The reason you don't get ice dams is becasue it's too cold for them to form there. Check any sophisticated ice melt controller and it will have a low-temperature cutoff, usually at about 15*, where the melt systems are turned off. If it were only a ventilation thing it would be easily solved. I have continuous eave and ridge flow-through ventilation over R-40 insulation, and I have ice dam formations.

  • Solve your ventilation problem and you won't get ice dams. -40 below in ND and we have no ice dams
