Porto twice came from behind to draw 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in their Champions League last-16 first leg at the Vicente Calderon in Spain.Abel Resino's Atletico team took the lead inside the opening five minutes through Maxi Rodriguez before Lisandro Lopez capitalised on some slack defending to level for the visitors midway through the first half.
Atletico continued to look less than convincing at the back, with Hulk combining with his Argentine strike partner to good effect, but a catastrophic piece of goalkeeping by Helton allowed Diego Tristan to regain the hosts' lead on the stroke of half-time.
But Porto were not deterred and capped their second-half performance with Lisandro's second, beating Antonio Lopez to the ball to convert Aly Cissokho's whipped cross from the left.
Both managers promised an attacking approach prior to kick-off, and neither side disappointed, with the tempo of the game at times frightening.
Cristian Rodriguez had a glorious opportunity to give Porto the lead after two minutes, but Atleti keeper Leo Franco spread himself at the winger's feet to alleviate the danger.
A minute later the deadlock was broken at the other end, Maxi clinically finishing off a swift move made in Argentina: Sergio Aguero's neat pass deftly flicked on by Diego Forlan into the captain's path.
Porto then had a goal disallowed in the 17th minute to the dismay of their coach, Jesualdo Ferreira. A deep floated cross by Meireles found Alves, who headed into the path of Lisandro five yards out, but the forward was ruled offside.
Lisandro equalised for Porto in the 22nd minute, scoring his fifth goal in seven Champions League matches in the process; the Argentine sliding his shot under Franco to cancel out his compatriot's effort after he was slipped in by Lucho.
Hulk had several opportunities to give the Portuguese side the lead, but he squandered each of them; the most notable miss followed a one-on-one with Franco, who saved with his shoulder as the striker showed a lack of composure.
But on the stroke of half-time, and entirely against the run of play, Forlan regained the lead for Atletico in comical fashion. The forward's speculative effort was dropped inexplicably into his own net by Helton, leaving the surprised home fans celebrating.
Lisandro skied a glorious opportunity to level in the 54th minute unmarked from 10 yards out after Cristian had teed up the striker, but the Argentine leant back lazily as he shot.otball| Champions League Match
