  • for anyone interested in growing energy willow (salix):

    1. This willow is just 1 year old. Willow should be harvested every 3 or 4 years, since the wood to bark ratio is better on older willows. 1 year old willow shoots should be considered as mainly bark - they make poor biomass.

    2. Willow should be harvested after the leaves have dropped in autumn and before any buds start opening in spring. Between these times the moisture content of willow is almost 50% less, which is comparable to wood.
