Toronto Symphony Orchestra
NACO Bombardier Great Performers Series
10 December 2009

Peter Oundjian, conductor
Robert McDuffie, violin

CHRISTOPHER THEOFANIDIS Rainbow Body
PHILIP GLASS Violin Concerto No. 2 (The American Four Seasons)
BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 6 "Pastoral"

The Toronto Symphony Orchestra presents music of today and a great classic: Theofanidiss atmospheric work is inspired by a melody from the medieval mystic Hildegard von Bingen and Tibetan Buddhisms concept of oneness with the universe; while Glasss fresh-off-the-page The American Four Seasons, written for Robert McDuffie and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Beethovens communion with nature make a spellbinding combination.

  • I was at the same concerto, last night. Absolutely stunning. I am in love with this piece.

  • I just got home from this performance, except it was the third premiere of the Philip Glass concerto.

It was AMAZING! McDuffie was fantastic and I've always loved watching Peter Oundjian conducting. Can't wait to see the TSO again!
