"Channel 4 lifts off on November 2nd with something for everyone - a new, colourful and exciting service". So says this promotional trailer program which was broadcast on the Channel 4 transmitters before the service started! An interesting historic piece which looks very dated now. Happy Birthday Channel 4 - you've changed a lot since then!!

  • I remember watching these regularly on the run up to C4's opening night. I was able to receive S4C as well, though a little fuzzy. C4 proclaimed that there was "something for everyone" back in 1982. 26 years later, it seems to be "something for any person whois under the age of 25, likes Big Brother and Friends and being a prepubescent prat".

  • I remember watching this Channel 4 preview launch way back in 1982, i was nine year old and i remember sitting down in front of the tv with my mum and sister, went up to the rented DER tv set and press the fourth button to find Channel 4 testcard being broadcast, it was such a suprise to see a new tv station, Even my family didnt tell me they had tune tv to the new tv network. lol.

  • Can Anybody Upload the S4C Launch from 1982?

  • 'The most exciting Television event for 18 years...' And, I guess it was. Having a 4th channel seemed great at the time and there were some genuinely good programmes. Unlike when Channel 5 started. Having an additional channel to add to the multitude of wishy-washy channels already in existance by means of satellite/cable, etc. meant absolutely nothing.

Channel 4's opening was, indeed, the last, great Television event in UK history.
