Key differences between ARMA Prize Playing and filmed event, based on info available freely on Web:
- bout are judged to first solid hit, returned or not (film), not until one of fighter admits a potentially debilitating hit
- bout are fought with steel Fechtschwerts, steel "Fechtmessers", wooden spear shafts with felt "points" (film), not with different simulators of one weapon (ARMA).
- all fighters wear protectors consisting of: a gambeson; rigid forearm, elbow, knee and shin protectors; gauntlets sturdy enough to absorb a direct, full-contact hit to hands; fencing mask; additional, resistant protection of front torso and throat;a box.
- displaying control by stopping a blow or discontinuing a fight without judge's signal or technical necessity (broken equipment, injury) is discouraged - a hit needs to make contact and be registered by judge to be counted. No calling of received hits by participants.
- double hits are counted separatelly. Hit fighter has one action with one step to try and nullify a point for his opponent - like in Belgian fencing guild longsword rules, only any hit anywhere will do. That way, a fighter giving a hit needs to show efficient Abzug.
- any hit noticed and called by a judge has the same value, no differentiating of hits based on (perceived, theoretical) lethality.
- fixed number of bouts to be fought(100)
- no opposing fighter trains in the same training group as the attemptee.
- fighters from outside of organisation(s) of the attemptee are allowed to participate, watch and/or film the bouts.
- the goal of opposing fighters is to win a bout, not to test the attemptee's skill.
- no opposing fighter fights twice in a row.

  • Fuck the marketing ;-) but 100 bouts or not, Mr. Surdels style is beautiful to behold, especialy with the Messers. Sometimes getting tired reveals the true technique behind the learned styles.

  • It's extremely impressive to just go 100 bouts in a row. I'm blown away by the mere thougt. I really wish I some day can do this. Hope we can gather up the whole of Sweden to bout it out. Very very entertaining. Thanks for uploading.

    /Robert
