Fiat Group and Fiat Powertrain Technolgy unveiled its new air management technology 'Multiair' at the Geneva Motor Show. Multiair is an electro-hydraulic system of engine valves for dynamic and direct control of air and combustion, cylinder by cylinder and stroke by stroke. Thanks to a direct control of the air through the intake engine valves without using the throttle, Multiair helps reducing fuel consumption; and pollutant emissions are likewise reduced through combustion control. Video animation explains how the new technology works.

  • @slithertoothy Cams can be gear driven, not necessarily do they have to be belt driven. That way the cams run in opposite directions, and be connected to a common shaft which is then driven by a chain or belt.

  • i wonder how the reliability will be. remember, this is fiat!

  • i hear they are going to try and use this on the chrysler Hemi? im not sure how seeing how that motor is a OHV but if they do that should be a beast

  • @slithertoothy chain routing

  • who fucks this shit V-TEC PEAPLE

  • Its pretty much tried and tested technology, most engineering is very durable these days, even Korean offerings...Fiat are master in this field...

  • I would like to see how this technology holds up under real world tests as well as being exposed to extreme temps. While I applaud the efforts I have concerns as to what would happen should one of the controls fail. We already have car technology that is difficult and expansive to repair.

  • American technology is decades behing European especially Italian and German.

fact...google the facts before posting BS...
