Derby night driving, long exposure time lapse photography

This is an experiment with long exposure time-lapse photography while driving.
I use a dash-mounted camera that has been modified to take photographs continuously without intervention. Do NOT attempt to take photos while driving, that would be mad!

Filmed in Derby, Derbyshire, U.K.

This video is made from 1441 photographs shown in sequence to look like a film.

The journey starts at Sainsburys Petrol Station, Kingsway.

Because the video is made from actual photographs, the exposure can be quite long (e.g. 1/2 a second) this results is streaky lines because of the movement of the car.

This effect can be clearly seen at 01:17 where the car is waiting at traffic lights, the strings of lights decorating Normanton Road are pin points of light. Then the car starts moving again and at 01:18 you can see the points of light have changed to long coloured lines, This is caused by the long exposures.

The imagery reminds me of 2001 A Space Odyssey where he travels though time.

This stuff is amazing. I don't know anything about film/camera but I like the effect of motion...it still seems organic but very visually engaging...nice work.
