Drink Can Tinwork

Here's how to make a charming little embossed metal box out of an aluminium drink can.

It's really easy to do and requires no special tools.

The edges of the metal can be quite sharp though, so watch your fingers!

Thank you for clear instructions. I tried last night with beer can. I found a little bit difficult to draw shapes on can. I will try this technic on alimunium foil today.

Sounds like maybe you need a slightly softer material underneath the metal when you draw on it (are you sure the can you used was aluminium, not steel? - check with a magnet)

I would really like a copy of the embossing pattern you used it that's possible.

There's not really any formal pattern - I just drew it freehand as I went along.

If I wanted to keep the original logos of the can (the artwork) and have them show on the outside of the box, which side should be the one embossed?

Start with the printed logo side facing down.

I found out real quick that scoreing to deep or folding to sharp a fold will snap or break the metal every time. Hard to find that happy medium.
