A defiant Sen. Ted Stevens returned to his home state Wednesday a convicted felon, telling cheering supporters at an airport that bears his name that he's innocent and vowing he will be vindicated. (Oct. 30)
Say what you will about Ted Stevens but remember one thing, he was a Statesman who stood up for his State and his people to the end. If not for him Alaska could have been twenty or thirty years behind the rest of the country in both economy and technology. Because of him it is a much greater State and a nicer place to live. "Lower 48ers" may despise him but Alaskans will love him to the end. Rest Well "Uncle Ted"...
Suddenly? I asked for the details in the first place. Go read my first comment.
You said something that is clearly untrue and I would have accepted the "clerical error" excuse if you had not made that same eroneous claim twice. That IS backtracking on your part.
You say you didn't get your information from the news, so where did you get it? Do you have insider information here? Or are you repeating hearsay that you find more palatable than the generally known facts of the case?
Oh, you're suddenly interested in the details? Didn't really need them before to make your own "asinine" assertions. I didn't get my info from the news right or left wing, though I did watch it just to see what the masses seem to think they know. Fixing a clerical error is not backtracking, just so you know - it's amending something written in anger. Anger at the ridiculous amounts of people that have no idea what's going on and pulling someone's name through the mud because they read a headline
Clerical error? Maybe if you said it ONCE, but you made that asertion twice in two different comments. So now its the prosecution that, once again, withheld documents that somehow disprove all the physical evidence and testimony against Stevens. Why don't you stop backtracking and tell us the nature of these documents first? Did they prove he didn't lie despite the record? Did they prove he didn't take bribes when the physical evidence says otherwise? Right wing radio does not = news. Try again.
Ah, well obviously that would be a clerical error. The prosecution withheld the documents and you would know that if any of you actually listened to the story rather just looking at the headline. Talk about checking your facts. Plus, the prosecution paid off witnesses in dire straits that would have otherwise never made testimony against Stevens. Both are being reviewed in the appeal and the prosecutors are under investigation. Now of the two of us, who sounds less informed, hm?
So you can't criticize a person unless you've been one of his constituents since before you could even vote? That's asinine.
So where are these amazing documents withheld (inexplicably by his own paid lawyers???) that prove that he didn't take as gifts and bribes all the stuff that was siezed from his home? In fact, WHAT document could possibly prove that?
Just because Rush Limbaugh says something doesn't make it ture. Check your facts before you make ignorant and false claims.
Are any of you even Alaskan??? As far as you're concerned, Alaska is part of Canadia. I bet you didn't even know who Stevens was before this.
I bet you all also didn't know that the defense for this case withheld documents that would have proved Stevens innocent and THAT is why he's appealing this. Until you live in Alaska your whole life at the shit end of the country with little recognition and see what this man has done for it on a day to day basis, then you can't say shit.
Because he's done more for Alaska than any other Senator for any other state. And the defense withheld documents proving his innocence during the trial. Alaskans aren't stupid and know his opponent went for the jugular on this. They want someone they've never had a reason to mistrust as opposed to a sniping vindictive little shit that wants to worm his way into the Senate.

What you fail to realize is the defense withheld documents that proved Stevens innocence. So his appeal is valid.
