This is a quarter tone prelude I composed awhile ago for two harps. It's kind of short, but nice. My goal was to create the perfect balance of the quarter tone dissonances and consonances as to make it accessible to the average joe with no idea about microtonality, yet still be prominently quarter tone-sounding. I think I've succeeded, what do you think?
For the video I used some pictures from Google that I thought were cool; various dwarf planets, moons, etc. I hope you enjoy. I will plan on posting some more substantial compositions later, so please subscribe if you like this.
The sounds are from Sibelius 6, so they aren't great, maybe I'll get it preformed someday.

  • Hey quite interesting music, I like the balance as you said beetwen the two worlds, and you achieved something quite nice. I posted a response on video of one of my works wich is for string quartet, piano and electronics, and the strings are all the time playing on quarter tone system, but I tried to create a balance too with pure quarter tone music and with the piano with 12 notes per octave.

  • @RodrigusVI Very neat! I'm glad you liked it. I think it is a little too dissonant for me, but it still has some very cool parts in there. I believe I posted this as a response to one of your videos as well. If you could approve that it would be great.

¡Saludos de los estados unidos! :)

  • i can't work out if it's beautiful or terrifying

  • This is most likely kind of music I would hear on a trip through space, really disturbing... And beautiful at the same moment :)

  • @sikyatavo Well, I already have all the instruments that I need, and have started recording it already, but it needs some polishing up before I upload it. I have been really busy lately so I haven't had the chance.

  • @kratanuva725 Wow, I would love to hear that! Are you going to make the acoustic instruments, or have the digital synth versions? Either way, let me know when that's done!

  • @kratanuva725 Thanks man I will approve it, I didnt know I had to jajaja, dont understand the system much xD.

Tell me later what you think about my piece :P

  • @sikyatavo Thank you. I appreciate your comments. I actually am not too familiar with ancient Greek music, but maybe you are hearing the similarities with the enharmonic Greek tetrachords which also contain quarter tones. Stay tuned, I am working on a piece for fretless guitar and ocarina in 17-EDO.

  • I think the sound is more ancient Greek than outer-space, maybe you could try some Greek images from Wikimedia Commons?

  • You have a good mind for remaining musical in the microtonal world, which is a treasure. Keep working at pieces like this. The sound is not bad. Perfect is not a word I throw around, but your balance is extremely good. Cheers
