Ashton Fitz-Gerald of http://www.SitMeansSit.com teaches you how to introduce your puppy to heeling with their head up.

Many advanced dog training skills can easily be made simpler by imprinting these skills in puppies at a young age. In this UNEDITED dog training clip, Ashton shows how you can find valuable training tools almost anywhere by using an empty water bottle to imprint 12 week old Phender to be comfortable walking with his head up near uneven surfaces. Obviously you can substitute whatever toy or treat strikes your dog's favor most.

  • Ohhh my goodness he goes crazy over tennis balls! Another reason i asked is cause i did notice he has a black marking on his tail n so does our puppy. So, maybe we finally know what he is. Thanks!!!

  • @bookrys I'd love to see a video of him!

  • He's a German Shepherd - Belgian Malinois mix. There are a lot of mixes that may look Malinois-like, but most are a Shepherd/Lab mix. I happened to know this dog's parents and can verify his lineage. What's telling of a potential Malinois mix is their behaviour. Usually ball-obsessed and super-high energy level.

  • The switching of sides here was the first thing that I noticed too pattysue. Consistency is critical. Repetition is critical. In short order, you will have a willing student who understands the request being asked.

  • @GetRhythm2011 The purpose of showing this puppy how to walk on both sides is an advanced concept that most trainers do not teach their dog. Personally I teach my dog to walk on both the traditional left-side as well as the right side and even between my legs. At this age the goal in training a puppy is not to have him learn a certain skill, but rather to learn how to learn.

  • Hi, ashtonfitzgerald. What kind of dog is that in the video? We have a 10 week old puppy that looks just like that one and we don't know what he. We were thinking maybe some kind of a Shepherd?

  • @skatesandoval

It sounds like your dog has a lot of energy! Tail chasing is considered a displacement behaviour. They do it because they need to direct their energy somewhere, but don't know where to direct it.

Dog's ignore us because we're either not being interesting enough to them or there's something more interesting elsewhere (i.e. they're distracted). Sounds like your dog needs some training and exercise. Playing fetch on a long leash is a great way to exercise an untrained dog.

  • Thank you for the wonderful logic and complete video, instead of snipets.

  • Thank you:)

  • 好可爱又聪明的小狗! =)
