Wo Weihan was sentenced to death for espionage. His daughter believes he had an unfair trial, and may have confessed under torture. This is a test case for China's new system for preventing executions based on inadequate evidence. But speaking out is risky.

  • Democracy MAY be what China lacks. But democracy is not going to come knocking at our door saying "Look I can solve ALL of China's problems".

Chinese Democracy will triumph when the party is no longer dependant on. Right now approximately 70 million people work for the party. Not including extended family of 100-200 million. It would be chaos if all those people got sacked simply because a few million human rights activists got its way of democratising China immediately.

  • I agree, in a world like this sometimes it's necessary to hold up walls to ideas that could cause chaos and effectively mass murder. I think democracy is better than what you have right now, though my ideal is where each individual has equal freedom as each nation. Every person without power, no one with it sounds amazing and I pray that one day it's possible. What would be ideal for your nation in your eyes?

  • I feel I am defending the PEOPLE of my nation. China has too many people for there to be swift political change. Many people will suffer far worse than simply death if the political system changes overnight. China MUST democratise but not quickly as Western media, politicians, human rights activists would want.

  • Defend no nations, nations don't care about you --not even if you live in it. Defend people, forget nations because at the end of the day a country is not a sentient thing and it wont get hurt feelings if you don't give a shit about it's existence. I am nationless because I am not afraid, I am from the world and my priority is the experience of every sentient being. If you want something righteous to fight for, try that something.

  • Ok fine, I apologise

I should instead defend a group of nations that massacred millions in Iraq under false WMD claims.

I should also defend the exact same group of nations for control 1/5 of the world's land, the eploitation of natural resources and the destruction of millions of natives.

  • Are you defending a country who's fucking guilty of the Falon Gong fucking inhumanities who keep thousands of Falon Gong practitioners in fucking nazi like concentrations camps? I'm fucking disgusted. ANARCHY! Go be governed, sheep!

  • yes ur a lesbian

western nations should improve their human rights

China >>> whatever other countries out there.

  • Yes the western nations made up the human rights issue BUT the western people ALSO made up the olympics - and the olympics bring a lot of economy and so on and if china wanted that they were supposed to get human rights which they didn't...

HAHA steal my wife and my children ?! GOOD THAT I'M FEMALE THEN huh ?!?!.............

  • "But the rules for the olympics were that china has to get proper human rights" - Olympics and human rights are 2 different issues. There is no link between the 2. It was the western nations that made up the human rights abuses against us and then began a smear campaign based on groundless info.

"a chinese person in China can get executed for stealing from a foreigner + - well lucky u havnt met me. Because I'll steal ur wife and ur children and walk away with no punishment

  • Okay listen before you categorize me as one of those "western people" you should get your own act together. Beijing is my home just FYI...

But the rules for the olympics were that china has to get proper human rights and they didn't - not even closely, a chinese person in China can get executed for stealing from a foreigner - so I think it's them who has to get their act together.

I'm not saying that the US or the UK is a better choice I'm just saying that China was a wrong one for the olympics.
