October 27, 1993 was a very hot and windy day in Southern California. The Laguna Beach Fire was a big Calamity in the city's history. This footage was shot behind my home in Aliso Viejo from the top of Pacific Ridge looking towards El Toro rd. & Laguna Canyon road. The 73 Toll road was not even built yet.

Ahhh, the great firestorm of 93. I remember it well. I was at Hemet-Ryan all week watching the air tankers launching on all the fires. I don't recall exactly how many, but there were a dozen large fires burning all at once, and all were out of control. We had 20 air tankers at Hemet-Ryan and by the 2nd day the sky was black as night. Very eerie. I remember there were so many fires that some had no air support for hours because there werent enough tankers to go around. Thanks for posting this!
