This is a Brief History of the Presidential establishment of a Thanksgiving Day by the United States of America.

On Wednesday November 25, 2009 President Barack Obama addressed "We The People" pardoning a turkey and providing a brief history lesson on the establishment of Thanksgiving Day. The President mistakenly maintained the Abraham Lincoln established the first Thanksgiving Day in the United States of America during the crisis of the Civil War.

In actuality the Continental Congress and President Henry Laurens established the first Thanksgiving Day on November 1, 1777 shortly after learning of the official surrender of British troops in Saratoga New York during the Revolutionary War. Many Articles of Confederation U.S. Presidents followed Lauren's examples. Additionally, 220 years ago to the very day of Thanksgiving 2009 President George Washington Proclaimed November 26, 1789 as Thanksgiving Day for the United States.

Although this author who has great respect for the historic office now held by President Barack Obama it is important, however, that this misnomer be corrected in a respectful and scholarly fashion.

Thank you for taking the time to Web In this video on the First USA Thanksgiving
