This video will teach you how a foot surgeon can tell if you need ankle x-rays if you sprain your ankle. San Francisco's Award-Winning Ankle Surgeon and Sports Medicine Podiatrist (Dr. Christopher Segler) demonstrates on an actual Bay Area ankle sprain house call patient. In addition, he explains the rules that emergency room physicians and foot doctors follow to decide whether or not to you should get xrays of the ankle after you roll the ankle. Ankle pain, bruising and swelling are all common after an ankle sprain, but not enough to warrant X Rays.

  • so basically, you need an x-ray only if there's fear for some bone damage?

and doing them for ligament/tendon injuries would be inutile, right?
