Harry Reid promised that the vote would not come up that day-- so Obama left DC to campaign, knowing he would not miss this vote. Hours later, Reid called the vote. It seemed like a nasty political move from the Majority Leader who would like to keep Clinton in the White House.

I think he was actually in NH, and Harry Reid, Dem Pres of the Senate, scheduled the vote with a 1-hr notice, after he knew Barack was too far to get back in time. Harry's son is Hillary's surrogate in NV.
