1. Download the file onto the desktop
2. open the terminal (Application → Accessories → Terminal)
3. write the following, note that $ means beginning of each line, saying it is your user but not root.

$ cd Desktop/
$ chmod u+x name_of_binaryfile
$ ./name_of_binaryfile

when you want to remove the program manually you should find the proper place similarly to this:

$ cd /home/user/
$ rm -R name_of_program/

  • This is not a demonstration of how to install executable win32 compiled files. These are Linux binaries.

    To install windy programs in ubuntu you go to Add/Remove, like in my other video, and install WINE.

    Then you can right click on a binary file like.... firefox.exe and select to open it with WINE.

    It is that simple.

  • HELL YEAH! I've been moaning and groaning for the last few hours trying to figure this out.

  • @lolzman21

    If the programmers made it well then you only need to double click the executable file.

    If they didn't you might need to do the same as I do in this video (and then double click)

    This video is in gnome if you have another desktop environment it might be a tiny bit different.

    command line: (assuming your file is on your desktop and is named file.bin)

    cd Desktop

    chmod a+x file.bin

    ./file.bin

    notice that this is a dot slash filename . / file.bin but with no spaces between
