The middle Chorale Prelude BWV 641, one among the three ornamental compositions in "Das Orgelbüchlein", denotes an upward embellishment of french character (as already was the case with Georg Böhm's "Vater unser in Himmelreich").
The accompanimental motive is drawn from the chorale tune. To some extent, as it happens to "Liebster Jesu..." BWV 731 )and definitely to "O, Mensch..." BWV 622), "Wenn wir in höchsten Nöten sein" is in no way a song we whisper while walking round a beautiful lake side; it is a prayer that comes from theinnermost realms of the soul.
In it, all the voices do precisely the same: they pray at the same time in a deep and lirical mood, thanks to the astonishing bachian inspiration.

  • How are you doing, my friend?

It is good to read what you wrote.

In the (apocryphal?...) "Chronicles...", one can read that what Bach loved more was to hear someone making references to his Music, as having some kind of positively ethical effect on people. Somebody, according to the text (apocryphal?...), said that his Music made him crave for being good... And the great "J.S." got really moved.

Thank you very much for your comment.

God richest, richest, richest bless us all!
