A 1968 documentary written and directed by Harry Chapin featuring old boxers in action. There are many scenes that show the boxers outside the ring, including some that are the only ones of their kind. Several early boxers, John L. Sullivan for example, are shown in the only film ever taken of them.

What the HELL are you talking about?!?! Jack Johnson receives lots of coverage in this documentary, you just didn't check all the parts of this documentary before posting your reflexive comment: go here!!!

The whole documentary didn't fit into one 10-minute YouTube video!!!

  • There was some film of the great John L. that wasn't mentioned in this amazing documentary (I don't know that it was known when this was made). You can see it several places on YouTube. For example:

    watch?v=rHvPHmaqYF4

Go to about :14 or :15, you can see the original king Sullivan hitting a bag! Short, but precious footage.

  • NO mention of Jack Johnson in this stupid documentory

  • thank you very much for posting this. I truly appreciate it.

  • @frombris I can almost guarantee it was because he was black. America was extremely racist. Even today they are pretty bad.

  • @frombris i thought that was odd, too

  • they forget the best of them all in his prime jack johnson or didnt mention his name coz he was black

  • What a terrific piece of Harry Chapin and boxing history! Never thought I'd get the chance to see it, thanks for the upload.
