Affirmed was the last Triple Crown Winner, only the 11th horse to ever accomplish the feat.

In 2001, Affirmed was euthanized after falling seriously ill with laminitis, a circulatory hoof disease.

  • @gotch09 Great horses are champs at age 2, 3, and 4. Some, more popular than Affirmed, can not meet this test. If only Pincay had been aboard, early on, erasing those 2nds &3rds, or against Seattle Slew (where Cauthen inexpliablly let Cordero control the pace--Affirmed's throat infection in the Marlboro, & saddle slip, during the Jockey Cup notwithstanding... And if only Affirmed had raced at age 5, eclipsing The Bid, like before. ...There'd be far fewer Bid fans and Slew fans gassing on and on

  • I think poor Affirmed was just so underrated. But not in my book.

  • I never knew that Affirmed also was felled by laminitis as was Secretariat. Damn.... I always thought Affirmed was a beautiful, elegant looking horse, really as lovely as Secretariat, my favorite.

  • You do such great work, Thank you for doing all this.
