  • Sadly, Sutherland had lost it by 1979, the voice had developed a beat and sounded mushy and matronly in the middle register - a far cry from the brilliant voice of 1959 when she stunned the world with a Lucia di Lamermoor that will probably never be equaled.

  • This was 1979 ! I've seen and heard better quality from broadcasts of 1949!!

  • Se non fossero comparse queste due favolose artiste, molto del belcanto ottocentesco nel nostro secolo non avrebbe avuto la giusta quadratura e connotazione.

  • thanks for share!!!

  • Bonynge is one of the worse conductor ever seen and heard... It seems he doesn't know what is his doing. His fortune was to be her husband. I have his version of Coppelia (a very rich and elegant score)... just terrible!

  • WHAT A MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCE AND VOICES...MANY THANKS FOR SHARING THIS GREAT ARTISTS' VIDEO....

  • I remember this broadcast, but haven't seen the entire thing since it was aired. Amazing...thank you C-Fan.

  • so great to see this again after 30 some years!

    thanks 3C!

  • @magicmonkichi
