It is unfortunate that there are so many people practicing martial arts and have no clue about what they are actually doing when it comes to kata practice. The question that you must answer truthfully for yourself is; would you actually defend yourself as demonstrated in this video? If so, may you live a peaceful life to where no one ever physically attacks you. Perhaps I would better serve you and others by posting a video demonstrating what I am talking about. Thank you for you attention.

Unlike what we see in this video, a kata is not one continuos fight with several people. Kata techniques are individual self defense techniques. Sometimes it was the students of the ancient masters who actually developed the kata to help them remember the techniques their masters had taught them. often times to keep certain techniques a secret, students or family members were not allowed to write anything down so they would develop a kata to help them remember.

The reason there are no blocks in Kata training is due to the fact that blocking requires a partner to really punch or kick at you so that you may develop your timing and distance needed to execute an actual block. Since most kata are practiced as a solo exercise they do not develop your timing and distance issues. What kata actually teaches us as a beginner is proper body alignment, total body coordination, breathing and focus.

@dtotrajan Hello my friend, this is Bujitsu4life. Apparently the person posting this video did not like what I had to say so he/she has attempted to keep me from commenting any further. Luckily I was able to get around his/her attempt at keeping me quiet. For I believe in knowing the truth especially when it involves learning how to protect your life or the lives of others. My friend, once you have been enlightened as to the true meaning of Kata training you too will look at this bunkai as I do.

@BuJitsu4life Katas should be taught with the true meaning of the techniques from the begining. To say there are no blocks in kata only shows your ignorance(watch the video again and you will see several blocks)

Wow, I love the scene where the guy with the bo just vanished after his unsuccessful attack. Reminds me 80s jump'n'run video games. Hilarious!
Love the guy with the bo staff smile !

@1970mew As you progress in your kata training, the kata teaches us proper angle and direction of striking/grabbing pressure points as well as joint manipulation techniques.
