@teslaglobal It's not a myth, I've personally encountered a few people in the states who used the term "Jew" for "haggle" without thinking there was anything wrong with it. "He really Jewed me down in price." It's similar to using the term Gypsy to describe drifters performing larceny or other illegal acts. Pretending to be persecuted, as in the case you're describing, it despicable and convolutes the larger issues of mistrust between ethnic groups.
