The Clovers - Drive It Home

One of the last record companies in the country specializing in the production, recording, and distribution of what is known as "Carolina Beach Music" is Ripete Records located in Bishopville, SC, a small rural area in the eastern part of that state. It has been through their painstaking efforts that this "sound" has not only been preserved, but has also survived as a viable industry today with new recordings from local artists as well as older ones such as two Atlantic Record stalwarts, The Drifters and The Clovers. This song was recorded in 1988 for Ripete by one of the groups callling themselves The Clovers that still contains members who reach back many years with that group and continue to perform as The Clovers in the Las Vegas and Atlantic City venues. Johnny Mason, who takes the lead on this recording, dates back nearly 40 years with The Clovers, and he delivers a hard-driving vocal to a hard-driving tune.
