There simply is no one singing the painful true stories like Gretchen is. Her voice is pure and a little smoky. Her lyrics rhyme but they sing out the truth.

I love the Hello Cruel World album a lot, and even turned my mother onto it. Love it, and will get a physical copy to have in my car soon (downloaded it from cdbaby.com).

I bought this album on a recommendation from a friend and assumed (not knowing the artist) that it was a singer in her 20s or 30s (the voice does not suggest otherwise). I was thinking that the lyrics sounded preternaturally sophisticated and knowing...makes sense now finding out that Gretchen Peters is two decades older than I had first assumed. It's a great album. I love "Idlewild" in particular.
