@CumminClouds 70 mph avg on the highway .. but 40% of the miles on this trip were around town driving. mellow around town driving like sightseeing, not battling commute traffic.

@CumminClouds On this trip I probably averaged around 70. I will often hold it at 60 just to save fuel and wear and tear and don't make a habit of being in a rush. But this is a long drive. The truck will go 90+ no problem, and I probably hung with traffic at 80 for part of the way. 70 average is a good guess. I would love have a tall-geared manual, even with the addition of a heavy-duty over/under drive. I agree some even higher MPG could be possible.

What speed/rpm where you running on highway? And your mileage would be sky high if we didn't have only 4 gears, I am considering trying to swap a later transmission into my truck.

@dngrdave2000 cool tip man thanks!
Yeah I got a 1993 12v white and grey I'm doing all that except filling the pump up til it shuts off automatically an reset my odom if my numbers are right I'm getting around 14-17

@condombrokesorry yeah auto-shutoff level is probably very close to the same level every time so that works. you are right you should be getting better than 14-17? Tell me all of your truck specs and how it drives? What kind of smoke and when? Engine or IP ever worked on? Dually? 4x4? My first guess would be timing not set right or pump turned up or it's a 4x4 dually? Tired injectors can be inefficient at vaporizing fuel. Not sure what else?

@maxhauler 4x4 ,junky auto ,ip tweaked up, full idle screw backed out, fuel pin ground, under wot a greyish haze some black no gauges , stock exhaust i try to keep my foot of it but it still gets crap mileage i think the injectors might be gummed up i run 2 stroke oil every fill up too

@condombrokesorry I don't know how much difference turning up the fuel accounts for but I imagine it could be multiple MPGs, if you have not added air and opened the exhaust. 4 inch exhaust and a free-flow muffler or no muffler might should help some with MPG and power of course but maybe you need fresh injectors and more air llike a bigger turbo to go with the added fuel? Which might bring your fuel economy back up I suppose? I'm not an expert by any means. Still learning.

so basically you did total miles into gallons put in correct ? im doing this for my truck and getting dirt mileage

@condombrokesorry The measuring method: Always fill up to the very top and always reset your trip miles right when you fill up. Then you will always have an accurate mile reading and the fuel pump will tell you exactly how much fuel to get to the same known level. At time of fillup, divide the miles on the trip odometer by the gallons of fuel sold to fill you up to that tip top level. It's pretty easy to get an accurate mileage measurement like this. you have a cummins?
