Shanta al Dente

Another installment of the ongoing chronicling of play time with resident lioness Shanta and senior keeper Steve Klein.

Shanta's amazing personality and intellect is the highlight of play time spent letting her do what she loves best, and that's usually pestering playmate Tonka or keeping Steve right where she wants him.

Biting and mouthing is a social behavior by which young lions safely explore the tactile limits of their siblings and relatives in preparation for the precise strikes necessary to make quick effective kills as adults. Fortunately, Shanta's primary interest seems to be altering Steve's wardrobe.

@firetresses Unfortunately, these few sweatshirts ARE her catnip. I try to wear the same clothes around most of the cats because of the familiarity with the smells. As you can see, she has definitely developed a taste for them.

Gosh, it's beautiful how he looks totally like a lion with Shanta.. The way he play with her, the movements, the bites! I really love the lion in the next cage: he want cuddles like a baby kitten xDDD One of the things that I have to do in my life before I die: Come to Cedar Cove.
