I would like to make you aware that, as part of their strategic policy, Scientology is actively attempting to control local politicians, law enforcement and the media, particularly at the international headquarters in Mr. Stone's district.

From their policy, the vital targets on which they must invest most of their time are to take control or allegiance of the heads or proprietors of all news media, and take control or allegiance of key political figures.

Recently, to celebrate the life of Ida Camburn, an activist who lost her son to the cult, we had a protest at Gold Base with participants in great costumes coming from as far as Las Vegas, Los Angeles, San Diego, and the Bay Area.

It clearly was a newsworthy event, as three journalists were present, including one from the Press Enterprise. (He was actually a photographer.) The internet buzzed for several days afterwards, yet no article about the protest was ever printed in any of the local papers. This gives the appearance that Scientology is successful in controlling local media.

Scientologists violated several ordinances and broke laws that day. They intentionally sprayed water on protesters, which created a dangerous slippery road condition for all drivers passing by. They played an extremely loud tone (around 115 dB) in violation of County Ordinance 847, which limits the sound level to 75 dB. In one instance they drove recklessly towards protesters.

I called 911 three times and the Sheriff's deputies did not come in response to my calls the entire time we were there. Yet the Hemet Sheriff's deputies seem to respond every time Scientology calls them. Again, this gives the public the impression of Scientology having undue influence over local law enforcement control.

I will attempt to explain how that's done next week.

After writing a detailed letter to Sheriff Stan Sniff, an investigator did call me back to take the complaint and investigate the violations. So thank you, Mr. Sniff and Assistant Walker.

The whole issue of Ordinance 884, limiting protests, and how it was brought about here by Scientology again gives the impression of undue political influence over local government. That must be investigated and stopped, even the appearance of wrongdoing, by bowing to a special interest group.

Last week in Paris, a clown - a protestor clown - was violently attacked and seriously injured for simply saying to parents coming in with kids, "Don't bring kids to cults." This is very serious. All this originates at the international headquarters of Scientology in Riverside County.
