Mayon is a real active volcano in Bicol, Southern Luzon, known for its beauty and perfect conical shape. The piece opens with the folk theme from Dandansoy to describe a happy mythical town near Mayon. An explosive middle section follows, signifying the eruption of the volcano and then, a beautiful lento religioso part evokes of a solemn prayer. The piece ends with a majestic recovery of the town.
